How do ultra-marathon mountain runners survive the race?
“…lots of vertical gain, that’s what I love…” Well, apart from his high fat diet, there is also Timothy Olson’s mindfulness practice. We are what we eat, and what we think.
Reading his blog we see references to gratitude, mindfulness and diet, and the importance it has in running ultramarathons. The example he gives of his 2105 run at Lavaredo (Cortina dÁmpezzo, Italy) is extraordinary. He recounts the run, how confident he felt, how well he had prepared – diet, rest and training, but was ultimately unable to complete the 74 miles (119 kilometers).
He shares his discoveries about his own journey discovering his nutritional needs and in doing so provides us with a good example of learning and distilling from that learning, his own needs.
Being involved in running and ultra-running since 2009 – 2010, he has honed his own practices and methods. See more at http://www.timothyallenolson.com/
As a survivor of a serious car collision in 1986 I realised nutrition was going to be part of my recovery plan. Now, years later in 2015, that is an abiding interest expressed under the general heading of men’s health. My mission with this site is to create a nutrition-focused blog of high interest to men, and the women who want to support them!! There is a parallel intention to develop this site into a marketing portal.
