Picking through these running articles you’ll notice a recurring theme from these people, they are all actively engaged with their food – they have taken the time to learn what works for them, and they enjoy it.
They notice what works for others and copy what they want to; they adapt their lifestyle to what they want to achieve. Some will take it more seriously than others, but they keep their sense of proportion. You are not left with the impression they are obsessively engaged.
In this video Sage Canaday touches on the belief that you need a high protein, high fat, low carb diet to be able to burn body fat. He notes that an essentially plant-based diet is better than a high protein, high fat diet overall. The high carb diet he follows supports his needs very well. He acknowledges that during a race he takes high fat supplements, but that generally speaking he follows a low fat diet.
He draws a parallel here between Kenyans, Ethiopians, South Africans and Japanese endurance runners. Very successful runners, and all people coming from high carbohydrate eating societies.
